Aceto Balsamico di Modena
Balsamic vinegars are also referred to as the kings among sweet-sour seasonings. This includes the “Aceto Balsamico di Modena”, which has been produced for over 900 years according to secret recipes in the region surrounding Modena (Northern Italy). The difference between the products available at stores lie predominantly in the production. With maturity, Aceto Balsami- co di Modena becomes increasingly concentrated and takes on the aromas of the wooden bar- rels. The special methods and maturity processes are often still a fiercely guarded secret today. One thing is certain superb Aceto Balsamici can only be produced from superb raw substances.
Other Classic Vinegars
Since the 18th century, wine vinegar suddenly emerged from being a product of chance - when laboriously produced wine suddenly became acidulous - into being a quality product. Gourmets have known for years that quality can only be produced from quality. A superb wine vinegar therefore requires an equally superb wine as its basis. Fruit Balsamic Vinegars
VomFASS doesn't just produce any old vinegar, but rather Balsamic Vinegars and of the highest quality. Our trademark is that our products contain as much fruit and natural goodness as possible. To achieve this, we use only the best raw materials. First of all, juice is produced from the fruit which gives each product its name, which is then fermented into fruit wine and finally into fruit vinegar. The crowning glory for the balsamic vinegar is then the addition of concentrated fruit juice.
Our vinegars are produced from their eponymous fruits. Unique in production and with a quality seldom to never found today. The difference between a vinegar and a balsamic vinegar lies in the addition of natural fruit juice concentrate to the fruit vinegar. This makes balsamic vinegars fruitier and more harmonious than vinegar; they maintain their natural quality and are balanced in acidity.
Health & Traditional Applications
Historically, vinegar was even considered to have medicinal properties – Hippocrates (460-370 BC) prescribed it in ancient Greece, for use both internally and externally, to remedy many sicknesses. In the Middle Ages, people believed in the healing power of vinegar. For instance, rubbing the body with vinegar was thought to offer protection from the plague.
Vinegar has re-entered our medicine cupboards and is frequently used as a household remedy for harmless ailments:
- Vinegar poultices are said to soothe swellings, sprains and bruises: Add 1 tbs. vinegar to 1 L water, soak a cloth in it, wring it out and lay it onto the part of the body needing treatment.
- To deter mosquitos or to reduce itching: Put a little vinegar onto a cotton ball and rub the mosquito-bitten area.
- A mouthwash with vinegar water is a good preventative measure against bleeding gums, bad breath and tartar: 3 tbs. vinegar to one glass water.
According to folk medicine, mild fruit vinegar remains hygienically valuable.
Apple vinegar, for example, contains all the valuable mineral supplements in an apple, particularly potassium.
- Drinking fruit vinegar regularly, particularly first thing in the morning, stimulates metabolism and digestion.
Wellness & Beauty
As a cosmetic product, vinegar was popular with both the legendary Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, as well as Empress Sissi. They used vinegar for its cleansing and disinfecting properties for beauty treatments.
- Vinegar is good for binding excess skin oils, and can therefore be used as facial toner. Clean your face as usual. Then take a cotton ball (pure vinegar or mixed 1:1
with water) and use it to dab greasy skin and impurities. Then apply your daily
moisturizer as usual.
- To enliven lackluster, dull-looking hair: Add 3 tbs. vinegar, for example apple vinegar, to 1⁄2 L water, apply it to hair, leave briefly to take effect and then rinse out with clear water. Your hair will retrieve its glossy sheen.
- Vinegar is often used externally as a freshening agent, to get the body back in swing. For instance, a bath with vinegar can have an exhilarating effect: put 2 cups mild vinegar, like apple vinegar, in a tub full of warm water and relax for 20 minutes in the bath!
